How to Troubleshoot Internet Connection Issues

Sometimes a lot of connectivity issues occur when you’re trying to connect to your Wi-Fi or the Internet. It happens that the Wi-Fi is connected and seems perfectly fine, while the device has a hard time connecting. This happens because Wi-Fi and the Internet work separately and are not the same.
Wi-Fi is a Local Area Network (LAN), and a router can be set for the same to connect to your gadgets like PC’s, Gaming Consoles, etc. A router maintains a connection between the Internet and all the devices connected in LAN.
The name Internet is used for all the Networks altogether, but there are systems within which the devices are connected to TCP/IP Protocols. These PCs can be connected with the help of physical wires, cables, radio connections, or different innovations not yet contrived.
How to understand the Internet connectivity issue?
Internet connection doesn’t just mean your device connected to the LAN; your local network must also be connected to the Internet to work. And the Internet can stop working when the ethernet cables get destroyed, or any other activity.
The very first thing you should do when your device has a good Wi-Fi range but isn’t connected to the Internet is restarting the device you’re working with. This trick helps most of the time once you reboot your device.
You may also disconnect your Wi-Fi for a few seconds and then try connecting it again. You can also troubleshoot the Internet connection using your PC.
In case, none of the above ways work for you while you’re trying to connect to the Internet, but failing, try following the methods mentioned below:
Ping
The Ping command can help you connect to the Internet when you’re failing at its attempt to connect via other ways. All you need to do is search for the ‘Command Prompt’ app from the search bar, and run a command- for example, ping google.com.
Ping command is used to verify if the networked device is reachable or not, and sends packets to the address you enter to check the connectivity. The job of the web browser is to respond to these packets, but in case it misses some of these or does not respond at all, it can indicate a connectivity issue.
Note: Ping command only works for some specific websites and not all of them.
Troubleshoot if the Website doesn’t work
If you have tried using the Ping command at your end, and it is working just fine yet, you’re not able to connect to the websites, the problem might be with the website server. To check if a website is down or not, you can use a tool named ‘Down For Everyone Or Just For Me.’ This tool will let you know if the server is not working for everyone, or the problem is arising only for you. If it says that it’s your website that is not working, you can check for the route of your connection.
If Modem and Router are not working
A Modem and a Router can be two different devices or the same. While a modem communicates with the Internet Service Provider, the router keeps your gadgets connected. The problem with these devices can be indicated by observing the flashing lights on it. The orange light indicates an issue with the connectivity, while the green says the Internet is working fine.
If your modem or router is creating a problem, you can try disconnecting them for a few seconds and then re-connecting them back. A reboot helps in refreshing the devices and they start to work.
If your router is still creating issues despite re-connecting them, connect your computer’s cable to the modem directly, to check the issue.
If your computer is not working
If the Internet is connected to all other devices in a Local Area Network, and your computer has a connectivity issue, it might have a software problem. Check for bugs or other software problems due to which your computer has stopped working and try to fix it accordingly.
DNS Server problems
Whenever you try to reach any website, your system asks for an IP address. Your DNS server might occur with an issue when the IP address is working, but you still can’t reach the website. You can use a third-party application like ‘OpenDNS’ to fix the DNS server issues.
