Airdrop is an efficient feature that enables you to share files in the blink of an eye. It offers you to share files of any type, be it images, videos, documents, websites, etc. If you’re an iPhone user, you must have used this feature for quick sharing. All you and the other person you’re sharing your files need to have is an internet connection and Bluetooth. Place both the devices close to each other, and you’re ready to do some sharing.
Sometimes, an awesome feature like Airdrop can create trouble too. There can be a lot of reasons behind the same thus, below are the possible fixes you can try to get your Airdrop working.
Check for Airplane Mode
The basic thing to make sure is that your Airplane Mode is disabled. Airplane Mode restricts the connection to work which is required in the process of sharing files. Check for the settings from the control center or visit the ‘Settings’ app.
Disable Do Not Disturb
The files can be shared while your device is on DND mode, but the problem lies that DND disables all the notifications. Not only this, but your device is undiscoverable in DND mode. You can disable the Do Not Disturb mode from the control center on your iPhone, or turn the slider off for the same in the ‘Settings’ app. You can disable the DND on your Mac from the Notification center.
Disable Personal Hotspot Option
Airdrop doesn’t work until or unless you disable your Personal Hotspot. It is because both the settings depend on a Wi-Fi Connection, and so they don’t work at the same time. Go to the ‘Settings’ app and open the ‘Personal Hotspot’ tab. Next, turn the slider off to disable the settings.
Make Sure Your Device is Discoverable
There’s no point in Airdrop unless your device is discoverable. To make sure you’ve enabled the Airdrop settings on your iPhone, go to the ‘Settings’ app and open the ‘General’ tab. Next, hit the ‘Airdrop’ option and select one of the following settings:
- No One- This option is used to keep your phone undiscoverable.
- Contacts Only- Only the contacts on your Phone app can access your device via Airdrop.
If you want to check that your Mac is discoverable or not, open the Airdrop window and the three settings mentioned above will appear.
Check for Special Characters in the Device Name
It is difficult to detect the device if its name has a special character, for example, Sophia’s iPhone. The steps to change the name of your device on an iPhone are:
- Go to the ‘Settings’ app.
- Open the ‘General’ tab.
- Select the ‘About’ option.
- Tap on the ‘Name’ option and then edit.
Note: Do not include any special characters.
The steps to change the name of your device on a Mac computer are:
- Go to the ‘System Preferences’ window.
- Open the ‘Sharing’ tab.
- A new window will open. Change your system’s name in the space provided.
- Restart your device to save the changes.
Prefer Wi-Fi Instead of Ethernet
Many people use Ethernet in place of Wi-Fi. Thus, it is advised to disconnect the wired connection on your Mac and switch to Wi-Fi for quick sharing via Airdrop.
Above mentioned are the possible methods to fix the Airdrop error that is occurring on your Apple device. In case, none of these methods works for you, you may contact Apple Support and seek help from the professionals.
