How to Turn off Automatic Windows Store Updates?

 Automatic update is a decent function that enables you to keep your apps up to date without having to install them manually. But this feature may not be suitable for those who have a limited data plan. Thus, the users can opt for disabling the automatic Windows Store updates. So if you want to disable this feature, then follow the methods mentioned below.

Turn off Automatic Updates via Store Settings.

  1. Hit the Windows and S combination over the keyboard to open the Windows Search.
  2. Then insert ‘Windows Store’ in it and select the OK button to launch the Windows Store.
  3. You should select the vertical ellipsis menu icon on the upper right side of the screen.
  4. Thereafter, select the option of Settings.
  5. Go to the tab of Home, switch the toggle of ‘automatic updates’ to disable it. 
  6. Now, you may turn it on again by switching the toggle to enable it.
    Turn off Automatic Updates via the Local Group Policy Editor
  7. Hit the Windows and R combination over the keyboard to open the Run prompt.
  8. You should insert “gpedit.msc” in it and select the OK button to launch the Local Group
    Policy Editor.
  9. You should reach the setting by using this path: Computer Configuration\ Administrative
    Templates\ Windows Components\ Store\
  10. Go to the “Turn off Automatic Download and Install of updates“ and twice click on it to
    invoke a new screen.
  11. Now, click on the ‘Enabled’ option and select the OK and Apply buttons.
  12. It will turn off the automatic updates for MS Store.
     Turn off Automatic Updates via the Registry Editor
  13. Hit the Windows and R combination over the keyboard to open the Run prompt.
  14. Then input “regedit” in it and select the OK button to invoke the Registry Editor.
  15. In case you get a User Account Control pop-up, hit the Yes button.
  16. Once you get the screen of Registry Editor, go to the WindowsStore key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore
  17. In case you cannot see the WindowsStore key, create one by right-clicking on the
    Microsoft key.
  18. After that, select the ‘New’ option and then pick the ‘Key’ option. 
  19. Go to the WindowsStore key and reach the right panel.
  20. Now, right-click on it.
  21. Then click on the ‘New’ option and pick the ‘DWORD (32-bit) Value’ option.
  22. Now, name it “AutoDownload.“
  23. In the “AutoDownload“ value, modify the data to 2.
  24. Don’t forget to choose the base as Decimal.
  25. Reboot the system to turn off the automatic updates of the MS Store.
