Halo 2: How to Play as Grunts, Elite, The Flood and More

The glitch-hunters and speedrunners have discovered the process to play as almost every character in Halo 2. From Grunts, brutes, or elites to the holograms like “Cortana” or “Heretic Leader,” players can play with any character. Players can even play as vehicles like “phantoms” and “warthogs.” There was a glitch discovered by the speedrunners “MisterMonopoli” and “Harc The Stark.” Firstly they explored it and then mastered it by glitch-hunters and speedrunners. They studied that players can play as any vehicle and character you encounter in the game. The glitch works fine and is easier to access.

In the co-op mode, when a player dies, the game constructs a model of the character at the location of sight and refers to it as a “default spot.” The game teleports the player to another spot once they die to make them alive in some safe area. After the successful teleportation, players can control the respawn character once again. This trick can confuse many players because it can make a player control the enemy unit, vehicles, or anything else.

How does it work?

Every component in the game that is thrown, fired, or spawn has an index and salt value. The salt represents the increase in the number of spawns one by one, while the index represents the number of loaded items during the time of spawn. Now to trick the game into providing the player control of the wrong unit, you need to fill a unit that has the same index and same salt values as a character model that is going to appear at default spot during the death of a character. The system of the game will try to teleport the model to players to give proper access to controls.

How is it performed?

To make it happen, firstly, one among two players has to die, and the second player enters the “pinch.” A pinch happens when players enter into a narrow spot, and there is no room left for other players to spawn. The game system will observe that player as protected and try to teleport the player to that spot but fail. Now, you need to restart the mission, and the game will again try to teleport the following character with a similar index and salt values until respawn happens. Through the index and salt values, the entire units and items will get reset when level restarted. When a player dies the same as before and then has a similar spawn unit with the same index and salt values as before, the game’s system respawns the player in place of that unit.

This trick isn’t easy to perform if any player doesn’t have any clue about the process. If anyone filled the wrong salt value, the process would fail. That is why most of the first level players don’t usually perform it, and some don’t even know the process. The whole process requires accuracy in salt and index values with the right timing. Even though the process is tricky, speedrunners have tried it numerous times. After knowing the complete process and exact values, players can try it, but it will still require a couple of attempts to complete.

Conclusion – Halo 2 is a popular sequel with a fantastic battle concept. Players usually don’t see any bugs and glitches in this game, but this one glitch is pretty amazing and unique. However, it’s hard to perform for every player because it requires a proper filling amount of salt and index values.
