Boruto: The Consequences of the Fourth Great Shinobi World War

The anime Boruto explores the life of Naruto Uzumaki’s son Boruto who has joined the ninja academy and is walking in the footsteps of his father. In the recent episode, “The Man Who Disappeared” the anime lays bare how cruel the consequences of The Fourth Great Shinobi World War really were and exposes the ignorance and lack of compassion of villagers of Konoha and Naruto. The violent and destructive war caused great damage to many lesser-known places.

The fourth Great Shinobi World War was fought in the anime Naruto. The war was a result of a dispute between Akatsuki and the Allied Shinobi forces. When the leader of the Land of Iron and the Five Great Shinobi countries refused to concede the Eight and Nine tails, Tobi was enraged. He then declared the Fourth Shinobi World War. Tobi was ready to unleash the seven beasts caught by the Akatsuki.

The Great Shinobi World War had the desired effect as Akatsuki was defeated and all their evil plans were stalled. The Shinobi Alliance ended up winning and saving the planet. But the war proved to be ruinous to smaller nations who had to bear the brunt of the war.

Even Naruto who prided himself as someone who believed in re-establishing societies remained ignorant about their troubles. Amegakure, the Rain Village is one such example of a beautiful village which was devastated to the point that it later became a base for all sorts of shady businesses. The major nations, on the other hand, were the only ones who probably benefited from the war.

When Boruto and his team went to investigate the mystery of a missing scientist on the advice of the Hokage, they were joined by Mugino. His Team 7 is being mentored by Konohamuru.

The smaller villages have a lack of resources, infrastructure and money and they don’t have as much as the major nations so they still suffer in desperate conditions. Plenty of soldiers who joined the alliance and fought in the Fourth Shinobi World War only to be neglected later on with no compensation for their contribution or sacrifices. The war had been a great tragedy for them and its toll still continues to bring them down. The major nations preoccupied in their own world of politics and thrill pay little attention to the pressing needs of the smaller villages and nations. This makes the alliance look like a joke.

Victor has made it his mission to improve the conditions of the healthcare services for the poor. As someone who himself lost his limb in the war, he understands the pain and suffering of the destitute. This has been the reason for his Humanitarian agenda.

Victor and his team in their pursuit of medical advancements have often taken many risks. They have endangered their own lives to save other people. So, it seems very logical to think that this might have been the case with the missing scientist Anato. As he too worked in the medical and tech industry.

Boruto is confronted with the fact of how Konoha is way ahead and prosperous than these smaller nations and villages. It might be a little hard pill to swallow but his father did next to nothing to help out these places. His actions lacked compassion and empathy which a true leader needs to have. On the other hand, Baruto has always been very compassionate and it has been his goal to unite all people.

The devastation of the small nations and villages raises questions on the abilities of Naruto as a leader. It also exposes the emptiness of the alliance which has taken little care of keeping its promises. Now that Baruto has faced this harsh reality it will be interesting to see how he resolves such issues. As his ascension to power is inevitable and it will be very intriguing to see how he makes amends for his father’s mistakes.
