How to Troubleshoot Common Chromebook Problems

A Chromebook operates as a Linux-based Chrome OS and carries out a lot of activities using the Chrome browser. Chromebook is simple to use yet, and can create complex errors sometimes.
There are many maddening issues that you can encounter while working with a Linux-based operating system, and thankfully there are certain ways to fix the same that shall be discussed below. Let’s get started!
Loading of mobile versions while using Web
Chromebooks come handy with the browser version of Google Chrome. Sometimes, these websites are unable to decide if you’re working with the desktop version or mobile phone. Thus, they land up, loading a mobile version for you, while working with the desktop web.
To fix this error, you can install a third-party application named ‘User Agent Switcher and Manager.’ It lets your program parody the site into accepting that you’re on Mac or Windows PC or some other platform.
The steps to use ‘User Agent Switcher and Manager’ are:
  1. Download and install the application.
  2. Open the application by clicking on it, and you’ll see a list of user agents.
  3. To update the latest version of Chrome, tap on the first drop-down menu to choose ‘Chrome,’ and the second drop-down menu to choose ‘Mac or Windows.’
  4. Click on the ‘Apply’ button and refresh the website.
Note: In case any websites are working differently than the usual manner, add them to the blacklist. To do the same, go to the extension and then the ‘Options’ tab. The next window will appear with the blacklist space. Enter the website URL and tap ‘Save’ to continue.
Navigate the hidden Chrome OS Task manager
A task manager plays the role of keeping a check on all your working activities, and immediately shut down the ones hoarding your PC. Chrome operating system has a task manager, as well, however not at all like those in MacOS or Windows, it’s somewhat hidden.
The task manager is present inside the Google Chrome browser and can be used in two ways. You can use the keyboard shortcut ‘Search + Esc,’ or second, you can reach out to the menu section by clicking on the three-dots icon on the top right of the screen. Next, locate ‘Task Manager’ under the ‘More Tools’ tab.
Add back the Caps Lock key
The Caps lock key used earlier is absent while working with a Chromebook. However, you can still activate the same by following the two steps mentioned below:
  1. The Search key is present at the place of a caps lock key. Thus, click on the drop-down menu present at the right of the search key.
  2. Tap on the ‘Caps Lock’ option to change the settings.
Checking out your Chromebooks specs
Chrome operating system’ settings don’t have an area for your Chromebook’s particulars. Indeed, even on the About page, you’ll just discover programming subtleties and update status. This also is one of the Chrome operating system’s odd plan decisions, yet doesn’t mean it is extremely unlikely for you to check your Chromebook’s data.
To access the Chromebook’s specs, the steps are as follows:
  1. Go to the ‘About System’ page and open the browser.
  2. Type ‘chrome://system’ in the address bar and click the ‘Enter’ button.
  3. The next window will appear with all the particulars about your system.
Creating space on your Chromebook
Many Chromebooks support 32GB or 64GB of data, which is not sufficient. This means a lack of space will not let you install any software or games that take high storage. But this is not it. There are few ways to free up some space on your system, as mentioned below:
  1. You may install Cloud storage with the help of the ‘File Manager’ application.
  2. You can add other accounts like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. To do the same, go to the ‘Files Manager’ and open the pop-up menu by clicking on the three-dotted icon on the window.
  3. An external storage like SD Card can also work well for storage purposes.
Next, tap on the ‘Add New Service’ option, and then ‘Install New Service.’ Select the account you want to add and follow the instructions.
