BAFTA Newcomers Program Welcomes Female Participants

Recently, the British Academy of Film and Television announced the participants of the Newcomers Program. The program expanded for the first time and accepted a record number of first-year female participants.

British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is an independent charity, promotes, and develops the art forms in the United Kingdom. The BAFTA has an international program and initiatives offering access to talent through masterclasses, scholarships, workshops, and lectures and mentoring schemes in the United States and the United Kingdom.

BAFTA was founded by a group of directors Alexander Korda, Laurence Olivier, David Lean, Roger Manvell, Michael Balcon, Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger, Carol Reed, and other figures of the British film industry. The Guild of Television Producers and Directors set up the first awards ceremony in October 1954, and 1958 merged with the British Film Academy.

The support emerging professionals boast international talent from the 20 countries- Australia, France, Hungary, the U.K., India, Italy, Mexico, Kenya, Peru, Philippines, Nigeria, South Africa, Singapore, Russia, Turkey, and Spain. Forty-one members are joining in the four-year program, and there will be 98 participants, including directors, actors, screenwriters, producers, cinematographers, composers, production designers, art directors, editors, animators, and publicists.

In an interview, the chairperson of BAFTA Los Angeles, Kathryn Busby said that “For ten years, BAFTA Newcomers Program has supported hundreds of talents and connected them to a network of peers to support careers.” She added, “We are excited about the expansion of the program this year to reflect our strongest year for female representatives, with 78% of the new participants.” Busby also said that “The industry will continue to adapt to the extraordinary impact of the pandemic and it is very vital to support those who have recently joined the industry by welcoming them into the BAFTA community.”

Every participant will receive a membership program and new talent for career development and transition to working and living in the U.S. The program includes network opportunities, educational and peer matching programming, including the BAFTA insights series, and briefing sessions.

BAFTA is recognised video games and interactive media at its BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Awards ceremony, the first change of the rules since the television thirty years. These awards allowed us to recognise the new challenging traditional and audiences expressions of creativity. The British Academy Children’s Awards are annually presented during November to reward excellence the art form moving the image intended for children.

This is all about the new nomination of the upcoming BAFTA Awards.
