Edge of Tomorrow 2: Latest Updates on the Sequel

Edge of Tomorrow is an American sci-fi film that was directed by Doug Liman and released in 2014. This action movie was inspired by a Japanese novel ‘All You Need is Kill’ by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. The grand film was produced by Tom Lassally, Erwin Stoff, and Jason Hoffs.

The lead cast of the film Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt were appreciated for their on-screen performance. The film managed to seek attention and appreciation from the audience and the critics. Not only this, but the film did exceptionally well on the box office with a total collection of $370.5 million. The fans of the film wished for a sequel after watching the ‘Edge of Tomorrow,’ and guess what? The wish got granted when a sequel was announced back in 2016, going to be named ‘Live Die Repeat and Repeat.’

Unfortunately, the movie faced delays due to the strict schedules of Tom and Emily. However, Liman shared a post on his official Instagram in early 2020, regarding the confirmation about the beginning of the same. Just when the production started, it had to be paused because of the pandemic. Now it seems like it’ll take a few more years before the sequel gets released.

Interestingly, a total of nine companies contributed to handling the visual effects for ‘Edge of Tomorrow,’ which added up behind the great success.

The sequel cannot happen without Rita and Cage, played by Emily and Tom, respectively. Sci-Fi movies are best performed by Tom Cruise, and without a doubt, he’ll be returning for another action-packed sequence. Thus, the return of the two characters is confirmed. There might be a change in the cast of other characters due to the writer’s replacement for the sequel.

‘Edge of Tomorrow’ was based on a time loop. A soldier named William Cage is seen fighting against the enemies while he dies and faces the same combat over and over. He teams up with Rita and tries to find out the mystery behind the same. More times he faces the loop, the more he gets close to defeating the enemies.

The sequel of the film is likely to pick up the same events. Once again, Cage can be seen struggling with the time loop, but at a different timeline.

As mentioned above, the film is still under-production, which means it won’t be released anytime soon. Also, the trailer is not expected to come out until the production activity completes. In case you want to refresh the memory of an action-packed film, you can watch ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ on Amazon Prime.
