How to Save Photos as JPEG Format Instead of HEIC on iPhone

Apple has set the default image and video saving to HEIF (High-Efficiency Image File Format) and HEVC, respectively, from the launch of iOS 11. The same default setup is also followed for the recent and updated edition of iOS 13. This HEIC format uses very little space on iOS devices and lets them save more images and files in the free area. It overrode the traditional place of JPEG format when all the images required this format to save an image file.

This new format for saving or sharing files doesn’t affect the original quality of the image and provides more space on your device by decreasing its file size. This file format accepts animation features that we had in the GIFs.
Working with JPEG File Formats
If you want to post an image in the HEIC format, then you can’t do so as web-based services and other programs still only support JPEG files. In this case, you need these HEIF or HEIC files in JPEG format as it’s the traditional form of image saving and sharing. In case you wish to send your iOS image to your friend having Windows PC, outdated Android device, older Mac system, etc., then they won’t launch and view it comfortably.
Here, we are providing several ways to transform your iPhone clicked images into JPEG format. In case you have transferred various images having the HEIF format, then in this case you need to switch your iOS device’s camera to the earlier edition or any previously compatible or supported formats.
Saving iOS Images as JPEG Instead of HEIC Formats
In case you want your iOS device to save your desired image into JPEG format, then pursue these instructions carefully:
  • First and foremost, open the Settings app on your latest iPhone running on iOS 11 and later.
  • Then, hit the Camera option there.
  • Now, click on the Formats tab.
  • After that, you have to modify your camera format option to the option “Most Compatible.” It works as a High-Efficiency image format. This setup will save images in JPEG formats automatically. In the case of videos, it will save into the format of H264 on your device.
Transforming HEIC Formats to JPEG on your iOS Devices
In case your device already has various images in HEIC format, and you wish to convert the same into your desired JPEG format, In this case, you need not worry as there are various options to make it a success:
  • Using Image Editing Application: There are various image editing applications available for iOS devices such as “Lightroom CC” that have the capability of transforming an image from one format to another.
  • Mailing the Images: There is a built-in mailing application in every iOS device, and they will work for you for converting attached HEIC format images to JPEG. To do so, you have to attach the default image and send it to any mail ID for format conversion.
  • Using Dropbox Camera Upload: This Dropbox application will provide you the desired image or file format. You have to do only a single task: To configure your default image files to JPEG for the conversion process just prior to uploading.
If you don’t know the process of how to use the Dropbox Camera Upload tool, then pursue these instructions below:
  • First and foremost, hit the Account section.
  • Now, press the option “Camera Uploads.”
  • After that, tap on “Save HEIC Photos As.”
  • Then, hit the option “JPG” there.
  • OneDrive Camera Upload: This application also works as similar to the Dropbox. You have to select your desired file format just before the uploading process. This application doesn’t require the configuration process as you can easily convert your images into JPEG formats.
  • Image Conversion Applications: There are a number of file conversion applications available at the App Store of your iOS device. You can select any of them that suits your comfort and choice. Some are paid while some provide free services for this task, and you may choose the recommended and most preferred apps by checking their ratings.
Note: If you own a Mac device, then you have to follow some different instructions for file conversion. It is recommended to follow all the instructions mentioned above if you want to change your image format to JPEG.
